Website Upgrade With A Dash of Industrial Thames

After many months of procrastination I have finally updated my website. It was in a bit of a sorry state as I hadn't really done anything to it since I first published it over 18 months ago. It's now a lot neater and cleaner, easier to use and, crucially, has some newer photos up. I'll try to make sure I keep updating the photos with some of my newer work as the months go on but this blog will continue to be the place I keep most up to date. So, check out the new website, let me know what you think; feel free to point out any bugs or inconsistencies and also to spread the word.

Speaking of up to date, my latest travel plans include a weekend in Bruges next month and later in the year, September into October, spending 2 weeks or so in India. The itinerary is yet to be thrashed out but will probably centre around the standard New Delhi - Aggra - Jaipur triangle. Needless to say I am desperately excited. In the meantime I've got several more posts on matters Mexican that I want to get done before returning to more general stuff.

MexiGo!

Right, you lot, time to take another trip. Sue and I will be arriving in Mexico tomorrow, somewhere I have wanted to visit since I was a child. You won't be surprised to hear that it is the history of the country that has mostly been the driver behind this but also, having spent several months in various parts of Latin America and Spain; the culture, the food, the music, the language and the people are all things I'm pant wettingly excited about returning to.

As a rough itinerary we will be doing something like Cancun, Tulum, Chichen Itza, Campeche, Palenque, Oaxaca, Veracruz and Mexico City; although the further into that you go the less pinned down it becomes, we'll probably just wing it for the last week or so.

I hear there have been a few earthquakes in the north west of the country lately, not a region we'll be visiting, but there hasn't been any significant damage or injuries, hopefully it'll stay that way.

I was hoping to get the new version of my website launched before I left but a lot of my spare time has been taken up practising Spanish of late so it's just going to have to wait. It should, if I have any clue what I'm doing, look a lot better, have plenty more new content and be in HTML5, which the kids seem very excited about these days. Once it's done I'll try to keep it more up to date than the last one, although this blog will still be the site I update most frequently.

New Mobile Website

This week saw the launch of the mobile version of my site. It's quite basic; it has fewer photos and a different look to my main site, but most importantly it actually works if you want to see the site on the move. I'll be looking to expand this and ultimately bring it more in line with the main site over the course of this year.

South Downs

I had never been to the South Downs before but by the time I was on the train back home I had begun to wonder what had taken me so long. Less than an hour from London the South Downs extend 70 miles from Hampshire in the west to Beachy Head in the east. It's a massive outcrop of chalk that's popular with walkers and fossil hunters alike.

The plan was to walk the 12 miles or so to the town of Lewes, north of Brighton. This was the best day for being out in the country that we'd had this year with warm sun, a gentle breeze and beautiful, blue skies. We reckoned on there being about 5 hours of actual walking not including stops which turned out to be about right, despite our improvised descent into Lewes.

Just when legs were beginning to get tired we found an excellent watering hole and, fully recharged by a tasty pub lunch, the last few miles were soon dealt with. If any Londoners are looking for a quick escape to the country I can highly recommend this particular walk - less than an hour from London, less than £20 train fares and a fairly easy, well signposted walk; it beats another day of traffic and smog.

Having been frustrated by the recent cloudy weather, it was great to finally get some good shots of the good old English countryside. I'll be putting some shots up on my website and Flickr page in the next few days.

New website!

I'm currently in the process of putting a website together. It's based around photography and, combined with this blog, my travels and is somewhere I can showcase what I've done to anyone that's interested which, if you're reading this, could be you!
